Please note, to be fully trained in Orton-Gillingham at the Associate Level, you will need to take the next 30-hour course and 100-hour practicum. The intro course will provide an overview of the curriculum.

INTRODUCTION TO ORTON-GILLINGHAM: THE FIRST 30 HOURS
This course is ideal for reading specialists, special educators, literacy coaches, classroom teachers, tutors, and ELL teachers who work with students in Grade K-12. Participants will learn about the reading brain and dyslexia, phonology, basic morphology, fluency, and spelling patterns.
Participants will be provided with an overview of the Level I and Level II OG curriculum and will practice teaching the basic concepts:
The six-syllable types
Basic syllable division strategies
Basic morphemes
How to write a Level I and Level II decodable text
How to follow a comprehensive scope and sequence for teaching the OG approach
Participation in the 100-hour practicum and additional 30-hour course will lead to Associate Level certification and will prepare you to teach the curriculum in a 1:1 setting. Ask me for details.

ASSOCIATE LEVEL CERTIFICATION COURSE AND PRACTICUM
The OG Associate Level course and 100-hour practicum provides teachers with the opportunity to apply the principles of Orton-Gillingham instruction in 1:1 and small group settings. Teachers need to complete the first 30-hour course to be eligible for the practicum. The participant will attend the second thirty-hour course and design and teach 100 lessons over the course of a school year.
The practicum experience requires a minimum commitment of 8 consecutive months during which the participant will receive 10 formal observations followed by a feedback conference.
After successful completion of the course and practicum, students will be prepared to apply for Associate Level certification in the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
